RUN! can eliminate scripts and config.sys entries needed to start many programs - particularly those started as 'helper-apps' by other programs. It sets the current drive, directory, and BeginLibPath to the directory

containing the .exe, sets options, starts the program, then terminates.

For example, to start Firefox from ProNews/2 without a script:

- copy run!.exe to Firefox's directory

- rename it firefox!.exe

- update ProNews/2 to start (e.g.) D:\NetApps\Firefox\firefox!.exe

Options such as turning on LibpathStrict or using your 2nd codepage can be specified by embedding the appropriate character in the exe's name, e.g. firefox!L2.exe. For a concise listing of all its options, just run the unrenamed run!.exe.
