1.0 Description
_______________
ACPI driver allows you to use multiprocessor systems equipped with SMP,
Core Duo, AMD X2, DualCore and HyperThreading CPUs.
Attention!
* Not all computers are able to work in APIC mode!
* Often you must use modified drivers fixed to work in SMP mode.
* Follow the Roadmap described in "2.0 Installation" section
Hardware:
* If using NVidia chipset and AMD X2 then read ACPI-FAQ.doc ->
Q: How to run ACPI.PSD on PC with NVidia chipset?
* If using old PIII computers then try /PIC mode, don't expect to run in /APIC
First of all, check BIOS Setup:
* Enable ACPI options
* Enable or disable APIC related settings
Please, install SMP kernel:
* Take SMP kernel package for FREE
* Unzip it to the root of boot directory, in other words:
Replace C:\OS2LDR, C:\OS2KRNL and C:\OS2\DLL\DOSCALL1.DLL files
(backup old files, copy new files from SMP package)
unlock.exe DOSCALL1.DLL if you can't overwrite it.
* Install ACPI driver
* Activate SMP support, edit your CONFIG.SYS: psd=acpi.psd /SMP
Usually you should use switches: /SMP /R
(Default mode: PIC)
* The ACPI snooper is removed from the ACPI package,
so remove acpisnp.snp from x:\OS2\BOOT\snoop.lst
* Reboot
2.0 Installation
________________
1) Replace RESOURCE.SYS with our version
(!!!make backup of your driver)
2) First of all, check that ACPI.PSD is running on your PC with UNI or W4
kernel without problems.
3) If ACPI.PSD is working fine then
To activate multiprocessor/multicore support, use the /SMP key:
psd=acpi.psd /SMP
(Check that OS2APIC.PSD driver is removed from CONFIG.SYS)
4) If you tested ACPI in the past then remove ACPI snooper.
Remove acpisnp.snp from x:\OS2\BOOT\snoop.lst
Roadmap How to run ACPI.PSD on SMP machine:
* 2009/01: Disable USB Legacy in BIOS Setup
* First of all, try run in PIC mode, don't start from APIC.
* Detach USB devices, disable USB drivers,
* Disable audio adapter, disable network adapters
* remove (or disable in setup of BIOS) all unnecessary devices
* empty the computer case: remove old SCSI cards, unnecessary adapters and bugs
* remove dust from desktop (yee.. it's serious)
* keep this devices only: video adapter, harddisk (PATA ok, SATA ?),
PS/2 mouse, PS/2 keyboard or usual keyboard.
* If system boots OK then Enable devices and drivers one by one,
boot with network driver
if system works that enable audio driver, boot again
then enable USB (try without /CD and with /CD)
* Now try /APIC,
* if doesn't work then add /CD
* if doesn't work then you should use PIC.
